Smart lighting company Nanoleaf just wrapped a keynote presentation where we got a chance to see the Nanoleaf 4D Screen Mirror & Lightstrip Kit in action, got a look at the Ultra Black Shapes Hexagons, and previewed the Nanoleaf x Overwolf Gaming Integration for Nanoleaf’s suite of lighting products.

The Nanoleaf 4D Screen Mirror & Lightstrip Kit is available for preorder right now, with kits starting at $100 and shipments starting in mid-July. Nanoleaf’s Ultra Black Hexagons are up for pre-order as well, with kits starting at $220 or expansion packs starting at $70, with shipments starting at the end of July.

After the event wrapped, we had the chance to catch up with Nanoleaf CEO Gimmy Chu about the day’s announcements. Here’s a breakdown of what he had to say, as well as a breakdown of Nanoleaf’s latest wares.

Nanoleaf 4D Screen Mirror & Lightstrip Kit

Have you ever seen those sweet light setups that use the colors on your television to control the lights behind your TV, adding a more immersive feel to whatever you’re watching or the game you’re playing? Well, with Nanoleaf’s 4D Screen Mirror & Lightstrip Kit, you’ll get just that.

The kit comes with a few parts and pieces, mainly a camera that you point at your TV — either below it on your TV stand or above it. The camera isn’t used to take pictures or record videos of your home or what’s on your TV; instead, it’s used only to monitor the colors and reflect those colors on the lightstrip that mounts to the back of the TV. Each 4D kit includes a magnetic privacy cover for the camera when it’s not in use.

This lighting kit packs LED strips that mirror the colors on your television, adding a cool immersive effect to your favorite shows, movies and games.

Nanoleaf will sell two different kits based on the size of the lightstrip you’ll need. The 65-inch kit is $100, while a lightstrip that fits TVs up to 85 inches is $120. What’s more impressive is that the lightstrip can physically be cut to match the size of your TV. So if you have a 52-inch TV, you’ll just trim down the 65-inch strip to fit. Nanoleaf joked during the keynote that a strip could be cut down to the size of your phone, and I low-key want to see someone do it.

You have multiple levels of immersive lighting behind the TV based on 1D, 2D, 3D and 4D settings within the app, all of which trigger different lighting modes and movement.

To further enhance your TV experience, you can sync the 4D setup to any of your nearby Nanoleaf Shapes, Lines, Canvas, Light Panels and Essentials kits for a bigger, more immersive feel.

You can order the Nanoleaf 4D Screen Mirror & Lightstrip Kit now from Nanoleaf and Best Buy. Deliveries begin in just a couple of weeks, in mid-July.

The 4D Screen Mirror & Lightstrip Kit will receive an update later this year to add support for Matter, a new smart home standard that allows for integration across all smart home platforms.

Nanoleaf Ultra Black Shape Hexagons

As a follow-up to Nanoleaf’s Ultra Black Triangles, the company has released the new Black Shapes Hexagons. Unlike the majority of Nanoleaf’s lineup, which consists of a white or semitransparent panel, the Ultra Black Shape Hexagons have an entirely black housing, yet somehow still light up all the RGB colors your heart could desire.

Like the standard Hexagons, you can arrange the decorative lights however you’d like on your wall, using the Nanoleaf companion to control the light’s colors, modes and even animate the lights.

This new take on Nanoleaf's popular Hexagon lights feature an all-black border, which allows for a subtle look that's perfect for game rooms and home offices.

The extra base-color option is sure to be a hit for those who don’t want white panels on their wall. Matter support will be added in an update later this year.

The Nanoleaf Ultra Black Shape Hexagons are available to preorder right now in a base kit for $220 that includes nine panels. There’s also an expansion pack that includes three extra panels for $70, for those who already own compatible Shapes or want to add even more black hexagons to their wall. You can order them direct from Nanoleaf, with deliveries starting at the end of July.

New Overwolf features for gamers

PC gamers are also gaining new functionality to improve their Nanoleaf setup via the Overwolf app. Overwolf is used by gamers and streamers to capture gameplay and trigger reactions that are then synced to your Nanoleaf lights. You can set your lights to a specific color when an action is taken in games like Call of Duty or Dota 2.

Additionally, you can use Overwolf’s screen mirroring feature to sync the colors on your screen to your Nanoleaf lights. Nanoleaf already had a similar integration with Razer’s Chroma software, so expanding the functionality is a welcomed addition.

You can activate the Overwolf integration starting today using the Nanoleaf desktop app.

All of these new integrations and behaviors are part of the bigger vision of how Nanoleaf’s Gimmy Chu views smart lights. Smart lights were originally just simple light bulbs that you could control with an app on your phone or using a personal assistant, but all Nanoleaf’s products, and even more so with the 4D screen mirroring tech, goes beyond being a simple light bulb and creates an entirely new experience — and it’s one that can be fully immersive.
