The Kansas City Chiefs are back-to-back Super Bowl champions.
The Chiefs defended their title in dramatic fashion Sunday, defeating the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in what was just the second Super Bowl to go to overtime. They're the first team to win consecutive Super Bowls since New England in 2005.
The game ended on a 3-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes to Mecole Hardman Jr. Mahomes, with 333 passing yards, 66 rushing yards and two touchdown passes, was named Super Bowl MVP for the third time in the past five seasons.
Mahomes' top target was tight end Travis Kelce, who caught a game-high nine balls for 93 yards while his pop star girlfriend, Taylor Swift, watched from a luxury box inside Allegiant Stadium.
It was a heartbreaking loss for the 49ers, who were the top seed in the NFC this season and had the lead for much of the game. They were led by wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who threw for a touchdown and caught another, and running back Christian McCaffrey, who had 160 combined yards rushing and receiving.
This game was a rematch of the Super Bowl in 2020, which was also won by the Chiefs.
